This new residents is nestled along the edge of the meadow at Kirkwood Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe. Upon our first visit to the site with the clients we immediately knew we needed to design something that would connect you to the expansive landscapes while still being protected from the elements. This tied with sustainable design principles were the basis for the development of the design for this residence. Sustainable components woven into the design include access to passive solar heating, natural lighting throughout, access to natural ventilation in all spaces, all electric systems with air source heat pump heating, high energy efficiency envelope and solar panels. The materials specified for this projet were all reviewed and selected based on their environmental impacts and health scores to provide a low-VOC and carbon sensitive construction. Ecosense Designs also worked closely with Sierra Sustainable Construction out of South Lake Tahoe throughout the design process to review proposed designs, construction systems and cost impacts.
