Sitting as a high alpine mountain cabin in Truckee, this project involved converting the existing unused crawlspace of the residence into a multifunctional space to accommodate the client’s growing family. The design prioritized an additional living area that serves as both a creative space and an intimate family gathering area, while also providing a bedroom, and bathroom. A newly designed interior stairway from the existing living room seamlessly connects the original structure to the new lower level. The living area is bright and open, providing a comfortable and versatile space for relaxation and entertainment. The bedroom, with its own private entrance, offers a serene retreat with easy access to the main house or by way of a new raised wood deck. The wood deck off the new bedroom and living space, enhances the space by creating a tranquil outdoor area for relaxation and forrest connection. The design incorporates a windows at the top of the stair and sliding glass doors, allowing natural light to flood the new spaces and blend the indoor and outdoor environments. This thoughtful conversion simultaneously maximizes the use of the existing structure but also enriches the family's living experience by providing additional functional and inviting spaces.
