PROGRAMMING AND SCHEMATIC DESIGN
THIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED AND BUILT IN 1993. THE SCHOOL HAS OUTGROWN IT’S EXISTING CAPACITY AND CURRENTLY HOUSES HALF OF THEIR STUDENTS IN MODULAR CLASSROOMS. WARD-YOUNG ARCHITECTS WAS ENGAGED TO HELP THE SCHOOL IDENTIFY IT’S NEEDS AND DEVELOP A PROGRAM FOR AN ADDITION TO THE SCHOOL. A SCHEMATIC DESIGN WAS THEN DEVELOPED FOR FUNDRAISING BASED ON THIS PROGRAM. THE DESIGN WAS DEVELOPED TO REFLECT CURRENT EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHIES AND TIE INTO THE DESIGN OF THE EXISTING SCHOOL. THE 40,000 SF ADDITION INCLUDES A GYM, 14 STANDARD CLASSROOMS, SCIENCE AND ART CLASSROOMS AND COMMON USE SPACES.
